Good morning and welcome to the Breakfast Ball Buffet. It was a fun week in golf and we’ve got it all covered. Here’s the menu for today:
The Zurich Classic is awesome
Australia deserves more pro golf
Rickie’s ace at the most exclusive course in the 🌎
Did Charlie Woods qualify for the US Open?
The Zurich Classic is awesome
Rory put Shane on his back and carried him to victory this weekend at the Zurich. Even Shane admitted it.
Rory would hit a 350+ yard drive down the pipe, and Shane would miss the green by 20 yards. Rory would hit an approach to 6 feet, and Shane would miss the putt. It was like that all weekend.
Well on hole 72, Rory had to hit it close to force a playoff. He delivered ↓
CLUTCH on the 72nd hole!
@McIlroyRory sticks it close for a chance to tie the lead @Zurich_Classic.

It’s not an event I’m usually very tuned into, but this weekend I gave it a chance. All I kept on thinking was how fun this would be if all the top players played.
The Rory and Shane team added such a sick buzz to the tournament; imagine if we had Scheffler/Burns, Åberg/Hovland or JT/Spieth playing.
If the PGA TOUR used a little bit of forward thinking for a change, they’d make the Zurich an elevated event and everyone would show up. It would be must-watch TV.
Australia deserves more pro golf
LIV Adelaide is like WM Phoenix Open’s little brother, but in Australia. 94,000 attended over the 3 days versus nearly 800,000 at the WM, but it was absolutely mental out there.
I mean, check these vibes ↓

The fans were so nuts that they turned Bryson’s post-round putting practice into a good time.
They made a bet with Bryson for his socks that he wore all day long. Kinda gross but I gotta respect that level of dedication ↓
Bryson gave this fan his socks after losing a putting contest... 🤣

Oh, and we also got a Kevin Na mental breakdown. He looked like an 8 year old throwing a fit and it was hysterical ↓

Basically, LIV Adelaide was insane. LIV fan or not, you gotta admit the tournament looked like a blast.
It’s very clear that Australia deserves to host top-level golf. They have an elite sporting culture and some of the best courses in the world.
I really hope this new world tour that we’re all waiting for includes multiple stops down under every year.

The 3rd hole at Pine Valley — photo by Golf Digest
Pine Valley is widely ranked as America’s greatest golf course, but it’s equally as inaccessible as Augusta National.
In January, Justin Thomas said that the course he has yet to play but wants to play most is Pine Valley, and that himself, Rickie Fowler and Eli Manning were taking a trip there in late-April.
Well, it’s late April and the boys got to play PVGC for their first time. They got to the 3rd tee, a downhill 182 yard par 3, and Rickie pulled 7 iron. Here’s what happened next ↓

Did Charlie Woods qualify for the US Open?
Last Thursday, Charlie Woods gave US Open qualifying a go at a regional qualifier in South Florida.
He had one of his high school teammates caddie for him and Tiger walked with them the whole day.

We all know he has a gorgeous golf swing, but how can he stack up against the pros?
The 15-year-old ended up shooting a 9-over 81. Can’t fault him for trying.
But imagine a world where Tiger and Charlie play in the same major one day? Would be an all time moment.
A 58 on the Korn Ferry Tour
24-year-old Frankie Capan III, a former Bama golfer and the 298th ranked golfer in the world shot a 58 on Thursday.
If that’s not cool enough, he also broke Scottie Scheffler’s previous course record of 59 ↓

He was so dialled in that when he walked off the course, he had no idea what he shot.

He entered a zone that none of us will ever be familiar with. Imagine not knowing you just shot a 58 😂
A new 54-hole golf tour is getting OWGR points and it’s not LIV
![](https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/e344f149-98ca-4779-b728-4451a67621f8/GMBSCunXkAAkbTV.jpg?t=1714363586)
LIV fans went absolutely ballistic when this news dropped, but the difference between LIV and the Clutch Pro Tour is that the latter actually checked off the boxes to receive OWGR points.
For context, a tour needs to have ways to qualify for their tournaments, whether it be Monday qualifiers or Q-School, and on top of that, they need to have a 36-hole cut.
All LIV needs to do to get world ranking points is check both those boxes, and they refuse.
I wish they’d just comply so we can have a real ranking system again.
