Good morning and welcome to the Breakfast Ball Buffet — where we cover all things golf so you can sound smart at the 19th hole, even if your swing is still terrible. Grab a coffee and read away — here’s what’s on tap for today ↓

Coming off a bronze medal finish at the Olympics, Hideki picked up his second win of the year at the first playoff event.
He had a five shot lead going into Sunday, entirely choked it away, and then birdied the last two holes to win by two.
Xander and Scottie both notched top-5 finishes, because of course they did, and the bottom of the leaderboard in the 70-man field was… shocking ↓
The 3 worst scores in Memphis. Golf is a strange game.

I already went off a little on the FedEx Cup playoffs format, but I feel the need to talk a little more shit…
Making these guys play in Tennessee in August is so damn stupid. It’s like 100 degrees and humid every day, AND the course is extremely underwhelming.
Days like today I miss Liberty National, or Olympia Fields, or TPC Boston, or Plainfield, or Bethpage Black, or Glen Oaks, or Aronimink, or Ridgewood, or Medinah.

TPC Southwind is soooooo boring. No wonder we had so much rage from the players this week ↓
Sam Burns snapped his driver while contending… not smart ↓

Tom Kim… this one’s just downright disrespectful ↓

Hopefully next week’s BMW Championship at the 8,200 yard Castle Pines will be a little more enjoyable.
Brooks vs. Rahmbo 🍿
2024 has been a really weird year for Jon Rahm. He made the move to LIV, hasn’t played anywhere near the level that we’re used to, and his on-course attitude has been… fiery.
He finally started pulling it together in July when he won a his first LIV event, but then had one of the worst chokes we’ve ever seen at the Olympics.
Check the news that dropped on Friday right before the LIV event started ↓
🚨🇪🇸⛳️ #REPORT — Golf Digest’s Jaime Diaz quoted a ‘Veteran Tour Insider’ who said Jon Rahm is experiencing deep regret over his move to LIV:
“I am 100 percent positive that if Jon could give the money back to the Saudis and come back to the tour, he couldn’t write the check… x.com/i/web/status/1…

So how did the allegedly regretful Rahmbo do in this week’s LIV event?
Well, he was close to winning his second in a row, but ended up losing to Brooks in a playoff (which by the way, sick that this battle finally happened) ↓

Whether or not Rahmbo regrets making the move to LIV is kinda irrelevant at this point.
He’s finally playing some good golf, and he also has $500 million sitting in his bank account. He’ll be justtttt fine.
The craziest grip you’ve ever seen 🤔
It’s with good reason that 99.999999999% of pro golfers use certain grips or swing techniques: because they work better than anything else.
But every now and then, and I mean so seldomly, some unicorn comes out of no where with some glaring trait that’s just different.
Introducing Garrett Engle. There’s baseball grips, then there’s whatever this is ↓
This is Garrett Engle, who won his match today at the U.S. Am in 25 holes.
Fully self taught. His split grip was a baseball holdover. Never felt the need to change it. Why would he? Clubface doesn’t care, and he smokes it.
Awesome find from our man on the ground @drewpowell71

By the way, I don’t mean that in a negative way. This dude is absolutely vile at golf.
He played his first two years of college golf at Oklahoma, and now he’s at the University of Tennessee.
He also made it to the round of 16 at the US Amateur last week, which is a really big deal.
People love to say “swing your swing” when speaking of unconventional golf swings/moves. Garrett Engle is one of the very few people who swinging their swing actually works for.
If you ever need a reminder to swing your swing, here you go.
Garrett Engle is in the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur.

Spieth’s season is over 🏥
Jordan’s been dealing with a lingering wrist injury for a while now, and is putting the clubs away for the rest of the year to get it operated on.
Of course, he ended his season in extreme Spieth fashion ↓

A feel good story ❤️
This is gonna be a little heavier than the usual stuff we speak about on here, but please give it a read/watch ↓
Last September, Steve Blake was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.
He was given a prognosis of 12 to 24 months.
As one of Calgary’s best golfers, Blake has received an exemption into the @rogersclassic.
In his words, this week is his Masters ❤️

He ended up going 79-74-79 and finished in last place, but said it was one of the best weeks of his life. You love to see it 🥲

Quick bites 🥓
Lefty DOD king: Phil hit a driver-off-the-deck to 12 feet from 300 yards on Saturday… decent.
Albatross alert 1: Brendan Steele made the first double eagle in LIV history over the weekend.
Albatross alert 2: Some random dude had some crazy wind on a 510 yard par 5. He drove the green and made the putt for albatross. Do you believe it?
