The FedEx Cup Playoffs are here 💰

GM, y’all! Welcome to the Breakfast Ball Buffet, where we serve up a hearty helping of news from the world of golf to start your day on the right course. Here’s the dish we’re serving up today ↓

The playoffs are here 🏆
It’s officially FedEx Cup Playoffs time on the PGA Tour, and I continue to be perplexed that another season has passed without an event in New York, Boston, Chicago or Philly.
Instead, we have the first two playoff events in the southeast (in August too, which is asinine), when we have already had eight in this region so far in 2024 and two more in the fall.
Annnnnyways, the playoffs, this year specifically, bring us onto the topics of who really deserves to win the “season long race” and why the PGA Tour must change the format.
Up first: Scottie vs. Xander. Do you take the guy that won two majors and nothing else, or the guy that won the Masters, an Olympic gold medal, and five or six other times (idk I can’t keep track anymore).
Here’s what two of the top five players in the world have to say ↓
Scottie vs Xander debate continues...

Well that solved absolutely nothing. I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide, but I think the only right answer is subjective to the player who’s answering it.
Up next: how can the PGA Tour fix the FedEx Cup playoffs format?
It has become abundantly clear over the years that none, and I mean NONE of these guys like the current format. Hear me out…
If Scottie Scheffler won every single PGA Tour sanctioned tournament from January 1st until the week of the Tour Championship, he’d be in the same spot as Viktor Hovland was last year.
2023 Hovland won twice the entire year before East Lake, and 2024 Scottie has won like seven times (I think). It makes no sense and doesn’t give the top guys the advantage that it should.
Here are the world number one’s thoughts ↓
“I think it’s silly.” Scottie Scheffler does not enjoy the FedEx Cup playoff format.

To me, the answer is simple: match play. I’m not gonna act like some genius who can piece together the perfect match play bracket that would benefit the top guys accordingly.
But there is 100% a way, and it would be far more engaging for both the players and fans.
With all that being said, I look forward to someone who definitely wasn’t the best player in 2024 winning the FedEx Cup (and $25,000,000).
Matt Kuchar… cmon man 🤦♂️
Matt Kuchar has become accustomed to controversy over the past six years after essentially none for the first 20 years of his career.
It all started at the 2018 Mayakoba Classic, when Kuchar was forced to hire a local caddie for the week.
Matt Kuchar, who is 12th on the all-time earnings list, tipped his local caddie just $5,000.
After some major and rightful backlash, Kuchar realized he was being a cheapskate, apologized, and paid the caddie an extra $45,000. Moral of the story: don't skimp on tips, especially when everyone’s watching!
This feels like a good time to bring this one back to your feed ↓
It’s a good time to bring back the time that Rory McIlroy roasted Matt Kuchar in one of the deepest burns I’ve ever seen

Rory knew. And also, I’ve never seen Brooks laugh that hard in my life.
Anyways, last week at the Wyndham Championship, with absolutely nothing on the line for him, he did this ↓

He said he was trying to set an example for his playing partner Max Greyserman, who he thought still had a chance to win (he didn’t).
Well Kuchar set an example by making a bunch of hardworking people come back at the ass crack of dawn, after an already brutal week for the crew due to weather. For exactly 1 golfer. Who had nothing on the line.
He ended up coming back on Monday morning, made his par, and then apologized. I don’t even really know what to say other than CMON MAN.
YouTube Bryson continues to deliver 🎥
Bryson continues to drop bangers on his YouTube channel, this time with John Daly. Unsurprisingly, it was yet another A1 piece of content.
To go from Donald Trump to John Daly is another level of camera-versatile, and I don’t think any other tier 1 tour pro can do what Bryson has done with his YouTube channel.
There are two clips that are worth sharing with you guys. If you weren’t planning on watching the video already, these should help convince you ↓

Buffet bets 💰
As we head into the final stretch of the PGA Tour season, we have three more chances to cash a winner.
Or, in other words, we have three more weeks of betting on everyone not named Scottie Scheffler and watching Scottie Scheffler win.
Is it time for Scottie to top off the season he so deserves the FedEx Cup in, or is it time for Rory to cap off another good season where he should’ve won a major but didn’t with a playoff run?

Well, here’s what I’ve cooked for this week ↓
My favorite favorite: Rory McIlroy (+1000) — he has three wins this year, is obviously in great form, and also happens to have a great track record around here. I’m gonna run it, bet or fade as you will.
My favorite dark horse: Cam Young (+5000) — idk man. It’s like a drug at this point. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that someone THAT talented hasn’t won yet. Maybe this is the week (it’s definitely not).
My favorite matchup: Tom Hoge to beat Max Homa (+100) — this one is sooooooooo enticing. Definitely my favorite of the three picks I’m making. Let’s all retire off the Hoge-profit come Sunday.
Please don’t hold me to these, I had a really long day at work and I can barely think straight.
Quick bites 🥓
No clothes, no problem: Boo Weekley went to Wal-Mart to purchase golf clothes for this week’s Champions Tour event in Canada after his luggage got lost.
Wanna be an actor?: If so, then go to the Hyatt Regency in New Jersey between 1 and 8 PM on August 20. You’ll have a chance to play a role in the new Happy Gilmore movie!
Hideki got robbed: During a stopover in London while on route to Memphis, Hideki’s wallet was stolen, along with the passports for his caddie and coach, who now can’t get into the US for the next month at least.
