JT and Bones split

Today’s edition was ready to be sent out until this news dropped.

After more than 2 years working together, JT and Jim “Bones” Mackay are going their separate ways.

Bones, a Mount Rushmore level caddie, was on Phil Mickelson’s bag from the start of his pro career, and the duo won 5 majors together until they split in 2017.

JT and Bones won the 2022 PGA Championship, and played in both the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup together over the years. Here’s the tweet where JT announced the split.

Not long after, Todd Lewis dropped this news:

Who is Matt Minister? Well firstly, he was on the Ohio State University golf team in his playing days, so he’s a stick.

He’s caddied for several tour pros, most notably Patrick Cantlay (before Joe LaCava took over in 2023).

Well he’s booked himself another pretty awesome gig, and his first loop for JT will be at Augusta National. Lucky guy.

Back to JT and Bones: it might’ve been short-lived, but they were a great duo.

Golf Twitter’s wild Wednesday

So is Rory working with Butch Harmon or not?!

In case you didn’t already know, Butch is widely considered as one of the greatest golf instructors of all time. His track record of Tiger, Phil, Norman, Els, DJ, and Rory speaks for itself.

The news was reported late Tuesday night by NUCLR GOLF that Rory took a day trip to Vegas last week to see Butch at his ‘school of golf’.

Dan Rapaport then decided to butt into the situation and confused the entire golf world with this tweet on Wednesday morning:

Less than an hour later, this clip surfaced. Who can be more reliable than the man himself? 😂

To answer the question: yes, he is working with Butch Harmon (great news for Rory fans).

Rory’s lifelong coach, Michael Bannon, is still in charge, but Butch has always been there to offer his expertise as a second set of eyes.

Shortly after that, some Bryson quotes surfaced where he said people are ‘losing interest’ in pro golf and a deal ‘must happen fast for the good of the sport’.

Bryson was one of the first people to cause this mess by taking the LIV money. On top of that, Bryson’s great at pissing golf Twitter off.

So obviously golf Twitter had a field day ↓

Yikes 😬

Thanks to Rory, Bryson, and JT, golf Twitter was popping today…nothing better!

This week in pro golf

The PGA Tour is in San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open and the field is way better than you might think.

We’ve got the likes of McIlroy, Spieth, Homa, Morikawa, Aberg, Matsuyama, Fitzpatrick and several other top 30 players playing.

From the superstars we named above, only Hideki has won in the PGA Tour this year, so this is a great chance for them to find their form a week before the Masters.

It’s rare that we get to watch a stacked field the week before the Masters, so we just might be in for a treat this weekend (if the big names manage to contend, for a change).

The LIV Tour is back in action at Trump Doral in Miami after several weeks off.

Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, DJ, Bryson Dechambeau, Joaquin Niemann and Cam Smith are headlining the field (Cam didn’t chop the mullet off btw).

Bryson’s “Crushers GC” will be going for their 3rd consecutive win in the team competition, which no one actually cares about.

Since this is the only pre-Masters look we’re getting for the LIV guys, any golf bettors who are gearing up for the Masters should pay very close attention to LIV Miami this week.

Here’s how our betting went at the Houston Open last week:

With 2 big tournaments this weekend, we’re looking to get into the green come Sunday night.

Since both TPC San Antonio and Doral are very demanding from tee-to-green, we’re gonna take some great ball strikers this week.

Our Valero Texas Open bets:

  • $20 on Ludvig Åberg to win outright (+1200)

  • $20 on Byeong-Hun An top-10 finish (+400)

  • $20 parlay on Fitzpatrick over Conners and Matsuyama over Homa in 72 hole matchups (+264)

Our LIV Miami bets:

  • $20 on Bryson Dechambeau to win outright (+1000)

  • $20 on Brooks Koepka to win outright (+1800)

We’re getting a Tiger documentary

CBS is releasing an hour-long documentary about Tiger’s win at the 2019 Masters.

The 2 minute preview preview gave me goosebumps. Just take a look for yourself.

It’s releasing next Saturday at 2pm EST, right before 3rd round coverage of the Masters.

Travis Kelce might be the mayor of tempo town

The 3x Super Bowl Champ and perhaps the greatest tight end of all time has GREAT action. I mean look at that tempo 😮‍💨

Some people pop out of the womb luckier than the rest, and he’s obviously one of those people. His genes just happen to possess more athleticism in them than the other 99.99999% of the population. Must be nice.

Also, did you know he was dating Taylor Swift?!

Quick bites 🥓 :
