The biggest purse in golf history 💰
In the snap of a finger, we’ve reached the last week of the 2024 PGA Tour season. Wtf?
What has been one of the more boring years in recent memory (at least in my opinion) will end with the biggest payout in golf history. Here’s a breakdown ↓
This week's Tour Championship has the biggest purse of any golf tournament ever played.
The payouts ...
1st: $25M
2nd: $12.5M
3rd: $7.5M
4th: $6M
5th: $5M
6th: $3.5M
7th: $2.8M
8th: $2.3M
9th: $2M
10th: $1.8M
11th: $1.1M
12th: $1M
13th-30th: Between $550K-$975K— Kyle Porter (@KylePorterCBS)

And now for my scheduled weekly rant about PGA Tour formats…
Unpopular opinion: The net Tour Championship format is great and if anything Scottie should be getting MORE strokes.
The season leader should get an advantage. The strokes are his home field advantage, just like all other sports have for season leaders. Here’s the starting leaderboard for this week ↓

The old system sucked. A player could win the Tour Championship and lose the FedEx Cup, or vice versa. It was anti-climactic and confusing.
Is it perfect? No. Would I rather my previously proposed enhanced match-play bracket? Yes.
But golf is a super high variance game so just making it a playoff like other sports would be dumb.
My only complaint is the strokes should be tied to how far ahead you are in the regular season. Scottie should be getting 4 over Xander. But idfk man, I’m no scientist.
Also, East Lake has always been an elite elite golf course, but in the state we witnessed it up until last year, it was kinda underwhelming.
They did a rapid full restoration over the last year, and it looks UNBELIEVABLE ↓

45 making more golf headlines 🇺🇸
Trump’s been making more headlines in golf pop culture recently than any pro golfer.
In all fairness, it’s an election year and it just so happens that this guy is more polarizing and easy to make content out of than literally anyone else on earth.
As one would imagine, the combo of Trump and the guy who runs the biggest golf meme account in the world made for some pretty elite content. Example number 1 ↓
🚨🇺🇸👀 #WATCH: Former President Donald Trump says he offered President Joe Biden $1M for a golf match: “I offered him a Million dollars. He said he’s a 6. I said I’ll give you a million dollars if you can break 100. Now a 6 can break 100 easy, but he can’t.” (Via @pgamemes_)

That clip is elite. I’m not sure he knows this, but he’s the Beethoven of modern day comedy.
This one however, is my favorite. Trump says that the reason he has won so many club championships against younger and better players is because he can handle pressure and they can’t ↓

To be fair, it’s true but no way he’s actually winning the top flight club championships… right?

The creator classic was kinda sick 🎥
The creator classic was a rare chess-not-checkers move by the PGA Tour.
YouTube golf generates as many views as pro golf does on the average week, and it was brilliant to bring the most popular of the bunch together for this one.
The scene in the 1st tee of the Creator Classic is pretty nuts. There are like 9 million cameras: TV cameras, Netflix cameras, AND vlog cameras. They’ve got scoring officials and rules officials. Xander and Wyndham’s caddies are milling about. What a day

The indisputable best photo of the day is this one of Fat Perez getting his flatstick dialled with Scottie freaking Scheffler putting in the background. What a world ↓

Anyways, there’s way too many highlights to show, so here’s a full spoiler: under par scores got into a playoff that included Wesley Bryan, Luke Kwon, and two others.
In the playoff, OU alum and former Good Good member Luke Kwon came out on top ↓

The event dragged in over 700K viewers, approximately 550K more than LIV averages, which is insane.
I really hope they embrace the YouTube world more going forward, because it’s golf’s new hot thing and if you ain’t on the train, then get off the tracks.
Buffet bets 📊
I know I say “fade me” quite often, but my top-10’s and matchups picks ahve been dialled. So maybe just fade the outrights.
But hey, what do I know, I’m not your financial advisor (if I am please seek the most severe form of help).
The Tour Championship is the weirdest week of the year for betting due to the net format, so I’m gonna do my best to place some enticing stuff. Without further ado… ↓
Our non-net pick: Sam Burns (+2000) — after a very quiet first 90% of the year, Mr. Burns has been turning it up over the last little bit. Really like the way his game suits East Lake, and I’m definitely not picking Scottie or X (no fun).
Our net pick: Scottie Scheffler (+120) — no explanation needed. The best player this year will hopefully win the “league championship”, and then this god forsaken season will be over.
The matchup-lay: Burns over Clark & Scott over Finau (+305) — purely an emotional bet. I feel those two will win, so that’s who I’m taking. Do with that info as you will.
Must add Big Cat content of the week 🐅

Quick bites 🥓
For the kids: inmate #00654436’s (Scottie Scheffler) hat from the day he got arrested at the PGA Championship sold for nearly $2.4K, with all proceeds going to Kids Cancer Alliance.
Absolute sicko move: Mac Boucher went upside-down righty driver off the first tee at the Creator Classic.
Plus seven: Scottie Scheffler says he plays off a plus-seven handicap during his home games. Somehow, that doesn’t feel low enough.
