Mr. Inevitable wins gold 🥇
So Scottie Scheffler shot a 62 to win an Olympic Gold medal in Paris yesterday… shocker.
He was +6000 to win with nine holes to play, and shot 29 on the back to win. Preposterous stuff from the world number one.
When he got to stand at the podium with his new medal and his country’s anthem playing, this happened ↓

Scottie’s earnings in 2024 are over $28 million. Seven wins deep and all he’s done after every win is smile.
Yesterday, he made essentially no money and sobbed. That right there speaks volumes about the man.
In the last 120 days, he won a second green jacket, found himself in an orange jumpsuit, won a gold medal, and had his first child.
We just witnessed one of the greatest individual seasons EVER, and he still has time to rack up a few more. Appreciate this run while it lasts.

You thought I’d only speak about Scottie? Hell no.
What Jon Rahm did yesterday was disturbing and you have to feel for the guy.
He held a four shot lead with nine holes to play. He was nearly -1000 to win at that point and he didn’t end up making the bloody podium. As wild as it gets.
Golf Twitter was flaming him hard, including Brandel Chamblee who said this ↓
“I’m gonna put that down as one of the biggest collapses, chokes of the year. Right up there with Rory McIlroy at the U.S. Open.” —Brandel on Jon Rahm’s back-nine 39
Not wrong !

Rahmbo looked at Rory and said “hold my beer”. We rarely get to witness one major choke in a year, and this year we witnessed two. A wild year in golf got even wilder yesterday.
The fifth major 🏆
Not only did Olympic golf deliver, but it also solidified itself as the clear fifth major.
We were provided with perhaps the best leaderboard of the year, and a dramatic finish that felt like a major the whole way through. The Sunday leaderboard was SO hot ↓

Whether or not you consider it a major right now is not important. What’s undeniable is the fact that the players feel like it’s the clear-cut fifth biggest event in the sport.
The big six events in golf (Majors, Olympics, Ryder Cup) don’t need to pay the players for them to care. They would all feel equally about them if $0 was on the line.
I mean, just look at what Rory and Rahmbo had to say after the week ↓
🚨👀⛳️ #POST ROUND — “I still think that the Ryder Cup is the best tournament that we have in our game, pure competition, and I think this has the potential to be right up there with it. I think with how much of a shit show the game of golf is right now and you think about the… x.com/i/web/status/1…

Jon Rahm after missing out on an Olympic medal:
“Two of the most meaningful weeks in my career are the two events where we make no money. And I’ve said that a million times. And I’ll say it again, because the Ryder Cup and this one are up there.”

But what a week it was for Olympic golf; it was the springboard the event needed. We only care if the players care, and finally all the top guys showed up with the right attitude.
It really feels like we’ve been gifted a fifth major, except this one comes every four years. That aspect might make it even more special.
Double-eagle-Donald 🦅
So this allegedly happened over the weekend ↓

The odds of holing out from those distances on back-to-back holes are slim to nothing, but not impossible.
We’ve all watched the Bryson-Trump video by now so we have an idea of what his golf game looks like.
He’s a great ball striker for his age, but 140 yard pitching wedges feels quite out of reach for POTUS #45.
I’m not here to tell you it did happen, and I’m also not here to tell you it didn’t. I’m just here to show you what’s going on in the golf world, and this absolutely qualifies as newsworthy.

Charlie Woods had a rough showing at the US Junior Am, but bounced back by winning the South Florida PGA Junior Cup ↓
🚨🏆⛳️ #WINNER — Charlie Woods wins the South FL. Jr PGA Cup! Bouncing back from his performance at the Jr. Am, he shot 68: “I wanted it so bad.. I felt focused. I knew what I had to do to get it done. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do better.”

After failing to break 80 at the US Junior, he shot 73-68-73 to win. Pretttty impressive from the young cat.
Those who have played high-level golf know that you needa have some serious mental strength to bounce back like this.
It just so happens that his father had the strongest mental game in golf history. Let him (Charlie) cook 👀
Quick bites 🥓
Gotta feel for Tom Kim: he needed a podium finish to avoid South Korea’s mandatory military services and came up just short. He was visibly emotional after the round.
Big Mama does it again: 85-Year Old Joanne Carner broke her age by a mile on Friday at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open, shooting a round of 80.
Riggsy ace: the Foreplay Pod founder made an ace on a par 3 course on Friday from (I believe) 90 yards. Does it count?
