Houston Open recap

Stephan Jaeger is finally a winner on the PGA TOUR in his 7th season, beating 5 runners-up by just 1 shot.

Since 2022, Jaeger reshaped his entire golf game around gaining speed, and it finally paid off. He was outside of the top 150 in driving distance in 2022… he’s currently ranked 9th. Crazy improvement.

We all know what that means: Scottie Scheffler finally lost. He had a 5 footer on the 72nd hole to send it to a playoff, but missed it. T2 finish for the likeable golf version of Thanos.

Scottie had a weird week in Houston. He so clearly should’ve won by 5+, but made a shit ton of stupid mistakes throughout the week.

He 3 putted from 5 feet on Friday. See for yourself 😂

Not only did Scottie’s win streak end, but his consecutive rounds under par streak ended at 28 on Friday, thanks to the 3 putt on 18. Womp womp, he’ll be fine.

Lastly, shoutout to last week’s winner, Peter Malnati, who made his 3rd ace on TOUR on Sunday. An ace clip is always worth the watch ↓

Nelly Korda can’t stop winning

Nelly just won her 3rd straight tournament on the LPGA Tour after shooting a Sunday 65 in Arizona. She is a bonafide superstar.

Everyone was talking about Scottie going for his 3rd in a row, but in the end it was Nelly who got it across the finish line; and she’s showing no signs of losing any time soon.

She missed the majority of the 2023 season with a back injury, and clearly wants to rack up as many wins as possible in response to having zero last year.

We’ve known this for a while, but when she’s healthy and has even her B game, she’s borderline unbeatable on the ladies circuit. She might win 10 times this year.

Tiger’s business trip

Tiger played a pre-Masters practice round at Augusta National on Saturday.

That is all.

Very early Masters betting preview

Speaking of The Masters, here’s a lil’ betting preview.

I know we’ve still got a week, but I cannot contain my excitement.

Who’s your early pick to win the Green Jacket next week?

Bryson tests a rolled-back golf ball

Bryson Dechambeau tends to create shit-storms on golf Twitter very often (like when he said that Augusta is a par 67 for him).

Some backstory here: golf’s ruling bodies agreed that the ball needs to be rolled-back, and the new rules will be active as of January 1, 2030.

Last week, Bryson released a video on his YouTube channel where he used a 2009 Nike One Tour ball, similar to what the rolled-back ball will be.

In the 9 hole video, he made a valiant attempt at showing why the golf ball shouldn’t be rolled back, but he might’ve accidentally done the opposite.

The video shows that the ball definitely doesn’t go as far, but it does fly way straighter.

Anyways, it’s worth the watch because listening to Bryson freak out over the ball is hilarious. He acts like birdies can’t be made with the ball and Tiger didn’t win 6 times with it in 2009 (spoiler: birdies are doable and Tiger did win 6 times with it).

RIP Cam Smith’s mullet

The LIV Tour is back in action this week at Trump Doral in Miami after several weeks off.

More importantly however, is the news that Cam Smith shaved his mullet.

There’s a very good chance that this is just some April Fools joke, but we’ll monitor the situation over the course of the week in Miami.

If it’s actually gone however, here’s to one of the two mullet-ed fellas to successfully win an Open at St. Andrews.

Quick bites 🥓 :
