Scottie is the richest man alive 💰
Scottie wins again. The guy who was already unbeatable to begin with got to start with a two-shot lead this week, and obviously he ended up winning.
Here’s Scottie’s 2024 recap:
Won Arnold Palmer Invitational
Won The Players
Won The Masters
Won RBC Heritage
Had a his first child
Got arrested (beat the case), and shot 66 in a major in the same day
Won The Memorial
Won The Travelers
Won an Olympic Gold medal
Won The Tour Championship
I mean Jesus Christ. This is without a doubt the best season since Tiger in ‘05, and it might’ve been better.
He won $25,000,000.00 this week to add on to a massive pile of cash already. Here’s the breakdown ↓
Scottie Scheffler earned $62,228,357 in total PGA Tour money this year.
That's ...
• $3.3M per tournament
• $830K per round
• $12K per shot
• $3K per minute on the course*Insane, insane stuff.
*assuming 4.5 hour rounds

And you know what that means… his caddie, Ted Scott, made CRAZY money too ↓
Scottie Scheffler has been so dominant this year that his caddie, Ted Scott, will take home over $5 million.
That would place him within the PGA Tour's top 25, earning more this year than guys like Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Will Zalatoris, and Justin Thomas.
Insanity.

Over 62 million dollars later, and the guy still can’t find a pair of wireless earphones ↓

What a freaking season from the undisputed best golfer on planet earth.
Golf rules are infuriating 🖕
Elite golfer and human, Sahith Theegala, gave himself a two-shot penalty for the most infuriating reason.
His ball was in a fairway bunker and there was a tiny bit of sand stacked up behind his ball. In his backswing, a single piece of sand moved, forcing him to call a two-stroke penalty on himself ↓
Sahith Theegala self-reported a two-stroke penalty for touching the sand with his club during his backswing.
He currently moves from -13 to -11, but will have the opportunity to review the penalty with a rules official following his round.— PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR)

Actions like this are the definition of integrity and leading by example. But, infuriating nonetheless.
He was unbelievable this week. He ended up finishing 1-back of Collin in the 72-hole unadjusted stroke-play tournament, which means ↓
The two-shot penalty Sahith called on himself on Saturday cost him ...
• An OWGR victory
• $2.5 millionWow.

Brutal. But count me in on the Sahith fan club going forward even more than I already was.
If you aren’t a fan of his, you’re past the point of help. Dude seems to be as genuine, kind, honest, and appreciative as they come.

In my opinion, the 2024 PGA Tour season was underwhelming. Scottie won basically every signature event, and was simply not easy to care outside of the majors and the Players for a variety of reasons.
January to the Masters was good. Then after that, the only thing I really felt moved the needle was the majors.
And within those big five, both the Players and the Masters were pretty boring Scottie W’s, the PGA was close but the Valhalla setup was just like any other week on tour, and the Open was a Xander runaway.
The best one we got was an absolutely mental Sunday duel between Bryson and Rory at the US Open.
On a more positive note, we finally got to witness a year of Tiger level dominance. Being able to see that in an era of pure depth in every PGA Tour field (albeit, without the LIV guys) makes it substantially more impressinve.
With that being said, kudos to both Jay Monahan and the government of Saudi Arabia for their fan-focused leadership (NOT).
Blame the split, blame the coverage, blame the general un-imaginativeness of the summer schedule… but YIKES, man. Hopefully 2025 is a lil’ more entertaining!
The NFL is back 🏈

The time has finally come: we get NFL football back this week. In honor of that, I’m going to give five NFL x PGA player comps. Now without further ado:
Scottie Scheffler x Patrick Mahomes — the obvious one right now. The two clear, indisputable number one players at their own sports. Even when they don’t have their best stuff, they still get it done.
Ludvig Åberg x CJ Stroud — this one’s fun. Two young, ripe, right straight-out of college superstars who made a massive impact on their respective league in their rookie year. The sky is the limit for both.
Rory McIlroy x Josh Allen — this one’s interesting. Josh Allen isn’t even in the same universe as Rory in terms of accomplishments, longevity or decoration. This is more of a playing style comparison. The two most physically gifted in their sport, but something absolutely insane can happen at any time for each, both good and bad.
Xander Schauffele x Matthew Stafford — this one might be a reach, but hear me out. Two guys who, for the first fat chunk of their career showed that they we’re uber-talented, but couldn’t win literally anything. Several years into their career, both make a massive splash and completely break out as superstars.
Phil Mickelson x Aaron Rodgers — the perfect match. Two older players who we’re always seconds to the GOAT of each sport. But both are also absolutely GOAT’s in their own right, and extremely polarizing off the course/field.
Man, I cannot wait for Thursday night at 8:15 PM EST.
Quick bites 🥓
No one’s safe: even Scottie Scheffler hits a shank every now and then. Don’t get too down on yourself next time.
Good-guy Sahith: if you wanted more context on the Sahith penalty situation, here’s him explaining it in an interesting post-round interview.
Surgery complete: Jordan Spieth reports that he had successful surgery on his left wrist and he looks forward to returning for the 2025 season.
