Scottie Scheffler is too good right now

Scottie Scheffler just won his 2nd Green Jacket in the last 3 years, and is anyone even remotely surprised?

From his opening tee shot of the week, it felt abundantly obvious that he was going to win. You might’ve, at points in time, convinced yourself someone else was winning, or even cheered against him. But he was never not winning this weekend.

At the end of the day, that’s what majors are all about. You want the best golfer in the world that specific week to win every major. You want it to be the opposite of a fluke.

This week was as opposite of a fluke as we’ve seen in a long time. The guy is simply too good at golf right now; in his last 4 starts, he has 3 wins, and the one non-win is a second place finish. It’s literally laughable. What a heater.

Scottie has now won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players and the Masters this year. In 2001, Tiger did exactly the same, and he ended up winning two more non-majors too.

Fun fact about Scottie though: he has yet to win a pro tournament after April 14 of any year. Zero PGA Tour wins between April 15 and December 31. I have a strong feeling that’ll change in 2024.

Masters recap

You’re gonna be hearing a whole lot about Scottie from absolutely everyone in the coming week. So let’s touch on some notable non-Scottie performances from the weekend.

Ludvig Åberg is generational

Luddy finished solo 2nd this week in not only his first ever Masters, but his first ever major. What a ridiculously good performance.

The hardos have known of Luddy for the last 4-5 years, and they knew he’s a Rory McIlroy-Jon Rahm-level European golf prospect. Undeniably generational. He is THAT good.

He has some of the best action I’ve ever seen and maybe the best attitude ever. He was one back of the lead when he put a ball in the water on 11, but still walked to the 12th tee with a massive smile on his face, laughing with his caddie.

If you’re in the market for a new favourite golfer, he should be your guy. A lot of people will be hopping on his bandwagon after this week. My early 2025 Masters pick.

Max Homa finally gave us a great major performance

I feel like the majority of golf fans were cheering for Max this week. That was the first time he’s ever contended in a major, which is pretty shocking considering how good he’s been in the last 5 years.

Here’s a crazy Max stat from this week: he didn’t make a birdie for 33 straight holes — he birdied the 4th hole on Friday and then didn’t make another until the 2nd hole on Sunday. He ended up finishing T3, which is his best major finish ever.

After his round on Sunday, he posted this on Instagram; trust me, it’s worth the read ↓

Bryson Dechambeau needs the spotlight

So many people have had problems with Bryson over the years, but after this week, one thing is very clear: it is very, very nice having Bryson at events.

He lead after a 65 in round 1 but ended up finishing T6, good enough for his best Masters finish to date.

He provided us with some hilarious moments this week (see in the next section). Moments that only Bryson could, and would give us. He adds a nice fun twist to literally everything. The guy is weird as hell, but in a good way.

José María Olazábal with an all time past champion performance

Not much to say here other than holy shit. 58 year old 2-time Masters champ José María Olazábal made the cut and finished T45 this weekend.

The Masters is the only competitive golf he plays all year, and he managed to make the cut and tie/beat the following golfers: Rahm, Koepka, Finau, Woods, Thomas, Hovland, Spieth, DJ, Harman, and PLENTY more.

This type of thing can only happen in golf, and shows how important course knowledge is around Augusta National. So so cool.

Tiger Woods’ week summed up

TW had a great first two rounds this week. In BRUTAL conditions, he sat at +1 and in semi-contention going into the weekend.

He ended up going 82-77 over the weekend and finishing dead last of those who made the cut.

Cool stat worth noting is that he is now 24/24 in making the cut at the Masters. The best track record of all time 🐐

It becomes more and more clear that Tiger will never be able to feel 100% again, which is tremendously sad. We all want nothing more than to see him contend in a major one last time.

All that doesn’t even matter, because it’s so good to watch him tee it up and play Augusta National for 4 days. Up next for him: the PGA Championship.

Ted Scott is SO rich

Scottie’s caddie Ted Scott won his 4th Masters this weekend; two with Bubba, and now two with Scottie.

Caddying for Scottie is the equivalent of owning a currency printer, because it is the easiest money ever.

Scottie has earned $15,093,235 on the course so far in 2024, meaning his Ted Scott has made over 1.5 million in the first 3.5 months of the year.

Here’s a list of a few notable golfers that he has earned more than (so far) this year: Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, Corey Conners, Min Woo Lee, and like 150 other PGA Tour members. Decent for Mr. Scott.

Most Masters wins of all time:

  1. Jack Nicklaus: 6

  2. Tiger Woods: 5

  3. Ted Scott: 4

Bryson being Bryson. Golf is far better with him in the spotlight.

Amateur Neal Shipley and his college buddy got to talk 18 holes with Tiger Woods on Sunday at the Masters.

Luddy munching on a pimento cheese sandwich right after putting it in the water on 11. Cool as a cucumber.

Tiger Woods takes a moment to bid farewell to Verne Lundquist as he calls his final Masters.
